unlocking the door to web3

lock designed from ice

in 2017, bookmarked a webpage that piqued my interest. although it took several years before i could give it proper attention, never considered removing it from my favorites. my curiosity about high-tech and the unique content kept my interest alive. the webpage and its content, with all its peculiar creatures and drawings, struck me as somewhat naive. yet, it was also different, and i was curious about the individuals behind it. they were mostly young adults with a high-tech orientation, and their idealism was reflected in their work. they seemed to be building a new world and society with a fresh perspective that was unfamiliar to my generation.

initially, it was the icon that intrigued me. its shape resembled a diamond, but with an imperfect, unpolished structure. the ecosystem's interface was particularly striking; it presented a purely digital landscape, devoid of any human representation or reflection of reality. this was digitization in its purest form.

i had been searching for a way to contribute to the ecosystem. it was rather amusing that my daughters were unfamiliar with Discord: had to research it myself to enter the gaming ecosystem. eventually, i found the community and joined, despite being a middle-aged woman surrounded by young tech-savvy individuals. my reason for joining was that I had grasped the concept of blockchain. my background in the technical and technological field of energy distribution, made me realize that blockchain offered an innovative and intelligent way to restructure energy supply chains.

the essence of community lies in sharing and contributing. i initially attended meetings and questioned the connection between the community and the "real world,"  contemplating my expertise and its potential usefulness to the community. this technology is too valuable to be limited to online gamers, despite their role in its invention, and should instead be integrated into real-world processes.

the next step was to learn about the technology itself, which could be accomplished by joining the translation team. i started translating the webpage from English to Finnish. the terms and vocabulary were fun and naive, which was a bit strange, as high-tech terms are usually technical. to give you an example: we were talking about gas, which is a perfect term in that context, and it makes the solutions understandable for all. the team atmosphere was also fresh and cosy; folks were professional but relaxed. nowadays everyone is familiar with memes and the role of the media, we all are media and contribute all the time without any strict rules.

the idea of self-sufficient energy communities was a turning point. i took the advice to "think big" to heart and created a drawing and animation linked with NFT, which led me to a hackathon called "Space-Warp", if i remember correctly. during the hackathon, a material for implementing energy communities was written covering the use of energy storages and blockchain. it was clear to me that renewable energy production and localization was essential for our future survival. communities address other challenges as well. with the current level of automation and autonomy in the digital world, a community could function almost independently. while human robots are still a bit clumsy, they are improving. this solution will redefine the role of humans. the solution is now under consideration and it will be built one day. without a doubt.

blockchain and digitalization have provided a solid foundation for addressing significant global issues. for instance, a Master's thesis draft i had an honor to read explored balancing the transmission grid. my conclusion was, by forming entities large enough, there is a possibility to participate in the balancing market. this approach not only addresses the volatility in energy supply caused by renewables but also presents a potential new business model. this model allows rural communities to operate independently, covering maintenance costs and ensuring a good standard of living for residents while relieving the burden on grid owners.

digitalization has democratized access to tools that allow anyone to explore and address global challenges, leading to extraordinary advancements. AI has revolutionized creation, from language translation to code generation, but it's crucial to remember that these tools are a result of human curiosity and ingenuity. while we haven't fully understood our place in the universe, AI might reveal our shortcomings. additionally, blockchain technology could decentralize the internet, empowering individuals. however, progress must be balanced with environmental respect and responsible resource use.

thank you the Ethereum-community, Polygon-community and the variety of committed and wise people in high-tech and science around the world. my lesson to you all is that one human can be replaced, but there are about 8 billion of us, we can make a difference, human by human.
