just to verify - an elephant

isn't it exciting to go on a journey? the "horror factor can be increased by traveling alone and towards a meeting of technology's peaks - going like a butterfly into an anthill. this is how one must act, however, if one wants to influence and be influenced at, say, ETHConf 2026 in New York. ETHConf 2026 brought together over 2,000 experts and enthusiasts working on the topic.

my journey progressed from Tornio through eastern Finland to Helsinki and from there to New York. a small hurricane inside the transfer airport threw me onto the Newark departure gate in Keflavik, and a staff representative asked: so are you going to Newark? i had decided to see and hear New York everywhere and answered yes. i manifested my performance in the wrong arena of the general, but an interested audience is valuable everywhere. i finally ended up at the right gate and the flight went smoothly.

moving from the east side of Manhattan past the Hudson River to the accommodation, which was located at the Days Hotel by Wyndham North Bergen, progressed rather slowly. i ended up in an interview with the "Department of Agriculture because of an orange, and my evening snack got caught in customs. the pre-ordered taxi did not arrive anywhere near on time: the taxi entrepreneur jumped into the logistical chain on the fly, so WhatsApp was needed once and then again to keep track of who is picking up whom and from where. as a user experience, not the most pleasant, but what can you do in that situation? the entrepreneur took responsibility, which is natural. all together i was well-served, all the individuals were performing their tasks like they can, in the frame they have.

for a Finnish traveler used to smoothness and predictability, New York thus also presented itself through "urban friction. everyday life is not just the shiny Manhattan of movies and Sarah Jessica Parker's "Sex and the City, but bridges, toll tunnels, logistical challenges, and industrial romance on the New Jersey side.

waking up at the hotel in North Bergen, an enriched continental breakfast, and a ride ordered on the fly towards Manhattan – living for a moment as part of that million-gear machine that commutes daily under the river to the island for work. this commuting, especially during massive traffic jams, raises the question: who wants this and could this be organized differently? very peculiar, downright laughable, is the detour that the main highway makes on the Jersey City side of the Hudson bridge before the tunnel. technological and physical solutions are inherently created for people, but people become numb to the discomforts of their lives and it's easier to just let it go without questioning.

sitting in a smoking herd of capsules felt like a sticky everyday solution, although on the flip side, one would also miss the immeasurably earth-shattering experiences that only a metropolis like New York can offer. new york's pulse is unique; the skyscrapers seem to condense all the energy pulsing down on the streets into their own shroud that doesn't discharge anywhere. you are in the crossfire of auroras all the time and you can feel it.

the daily transition to the ETHConf event was mostly done by public transport, under the Hudson River to Manhattan's Hudson Yards, straight into the core of the Javits Center's glassy and bright architecture. the contrast between the gritty industrial landscape of North Bergen and Manhattan's hyper-modern tech hub is palpable. the journey from the hotel to Manhattan serves as an excellent analogy for the current web3 user experience: there is a huge amount of complex infrastructure in the background (traffic systems, tolls, congestion), but the end user must still navigate through it smoothly to reach their destination. actors from different levels and sectors of the industry want to help facilitate this navigation at events like ETHConf. everyone wants a good outcome. 

the theme of ETHConf 2026 dealt heavily with decentralized finance and its applications. the topic was truly underlining, and Wall Street met on-chain infrastructure in this arena. at the Javits Center, the discussion no longer revolved around pure theory, but crossing the stage and corridors were figures from the traditional financial world speeches were also heard from the regulatory side, which creates new credibility for the whole sector in relation to societal challenges and their solution models. the quality of the organization behind the scenes is world-class. the gift the visitors were given was exceptionally great; a back tailored almost perfectly for demanding enduser like Nordic audiences. i was astonished. thank you. 

in this environment, where figures like Chainlink's Sergey Nazarov outlined the future of oracle networks and real-world asset (RWA) tokenization, the decentralized energy model of the development project and the ECQ tokens i envisioned fit directly into the most current DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks) discussion. The roadmapping could be heard within the conversation between Kartik Talwar from ETHGlobal and Joe Lubin from Consensys. discussions on the stages were held simultaneously both interactively or through presentations. delightful were the chess tables, where people both played and presented the latest applications. surprising encounters were nicely enabled. a gaming session left a memory trace where both players experienced the same atmosphere. it was as if we shut out the bustling and crackling environment outside our game and focused in our bubble on the events on the chessboard. a downright meditative quarter of an hour that cleared the mind of unnecessary charges from past history.

my own goal for the event was to bring out the possibilities of decentralized infrastructure in the energy community model - to build society's immune system. i got to present the demo app i created with its calculations to a few influencers. i also succeeded in conquering both the table meant for the DJ and the main stage on the second day of the conference. i gave two speeches: one through the microphone to the audience present and another to the listeners around the main stage. the impact was reasonably good. people waved in the corridors and a person named Drew even told me they had seen me on some screen, asking: where did you pop-up?

the great challenge of the web3 world was also clearly evident at the event. how to bring an excellent technological solution within the reach of ordinary users when the discussion is conducted in almost hieroglyphic abbreviations, the speed of the speaker's information bombardment proceeds at a YouTube multiplier of 1.75, and the sector itself is still struggling with a rather poor reputation and scams. a terrible equation, but solvable if understanding on both sides improves. we have to meet halfway on the bridge to succeed in connecting these two worlds.

as a counterweight to tight technology and code structures, i headed towards the Manhattan waterfront, to Arte Museum. the exhibition was an activity that extended to several senses. sight, hearing, and touch were activated, and balance was "fake-shaken" as waves hit the shore. the immersive exhibition led from one hall to another, creating a virtual space for different landscapes. in the flower hall, i lingered to sniff, "is there a faint scent of lilac here? the keys invited me to play my rather primitive version of "Once upon a dream. in the forest hall, you get to express yourself with traditional crayons: an elephant was born, which after a short while flew onto the wall as a beautiful digital version. yes, you could recognize it as your own with its black-white-gray tones. 

Arte museum is not a traditional museum, but a perfect lesson in what the future digital user experience and comprehensive immersion mean. it combines visual digital installations, spatial sound, and scents tailored by a master perfumer. how does the ability of Arte Museum to bring the digital world to life through all the senses resonate with my own software design philosophy? the exhibition shows that the best systems – whether immersive art or decentralized energy networks – are built for people and the experience, removing the interfaces between technology and the user.

my favorite in the exhibition was found in the hall where visual art, its history and forms, were presented accompanied by music. the charming power of small details was bewildering. the exhibition's presentation of Vincent van Gogh targeted the artist's brushwork. zooming into a macro image of his painting highlights an incomprehensibly precise painting style consisting of nano-strokes. like feather-like but blunt scales in millions of strokes. amazing!

to satisfy daily needs i used to visit the North Bergen ALDI-market. wandering around to meet locals is one of my favorite activities around the world. you were most kind and sweet to me!

the journey ends with a memorable return transfer from the hotel back to JFK. after the sensory overload created by New York, the northern peace and Finnish clarity offer the perfect environment to reflect on what was seen. New York showed that Finnish everyday, realistic thinking and high-flying innovation can hold its own against the world's best. the next step is to take the ecosystem forward, pass the operational torch to the heavy-weight leaders, and continue developing the strategic, codeless "vibe architecture that makes complex technology easily accessible to humans. there are many routes to this goal. we Finns can show a direct, fair, and straightforward path. in that, we must be brave and open-minded.

returning to Helsinki in the middle of the city's celebration day; i experienced a heartwarming moment. in the middle of the city, young people were queuing at the edge of a low rock to practice performing without further ado. the mic moved from hand to hand.

yhdessä yhteisö on vahva

eikö ole jännittävää lähteä matkalle? kauhukerrointa voi lisätä matkustamalla itsekseen ja kohti teknologian huippujen kohtaamista - mennä perhosena muurahaispesään. näin on kuitenkin toimittava, mikäli haluaa vaikuttaa ja vaikuttua vaikkapa ETHConf 2026 -tapahtumassa New Yorkissa. ETHConf 2026 kokosi yhteen yli 2 000 aiheen parissa toimivaa asiantuntijaa ja innostunutta. 

matkani eteni Torniosta itäisen Suomen kautta Helsinkiin ja sieltä New Yorkiin. transfer-kentän sisäinen pieni hurrikaani heitti minut Keflavikissa Newarkin lähtöportille ja henkilökunnan edustaja kysyikin: menetkö siis Newarkiin? olin päättänyt nähdä ja kuulla kaikkialla New Yorkin ja vastasin kyllä. manifestoin performanssini kenraalin väärällä areenalla, mutta kiinnostunut yleisö on kaikkialla arvokasta. päädyin lopulta oikealle portille ja lentokin sujui kitkatta.

siirtyminen Manhattanin itäpuolelta Hudson-joen taakse majapaikkaan, joka sijaitsi Days Hotel by Wyndham North Bergen -hotellissa eteni hitaanlaisesti. jouduin "Department of Agriculturen" puhutteluun appelsiinin vuoksi ja iltapalani jäi tullin haaviin. etukäteen tilattu taksi ei saapunut lähimainkaan aikanaan: taksiyrittäjä hyppäsi lennosta mukaan logistiseen ketjuun, joten whatsappia tarvittiin kerran ja toisenkin, jotta pysyttiin kärryillä, kuka hakee kenet ja mistä. käyttäjäkokemuksena ei se kaikkein miellyttävin, mutta minkäs tuossa tilanteessa teet? yrittäjä kantoi vastuunsa, mikä luonnollista.

suomalaiselle tasaisuuteen ja ennakoitavuuteen tottuneelle matkaajalle New York esittäytyi näin ollen myös "urbaanin friktion kautta. arki ei ole pelkkää elokuvien kiiltävää Manhattania ja Sarah Jessica-Parkerin "Sinkkuelämää, vaan siltoja, maksullisia tunneleita, logistisia haasteita ja teollisuusromantiikkaa New Jerseyn puolella.

herääminen hotellissa North Bergenissä, rikastettu mannermainen aamiainen ja lennosta tilattu kyyti kohti Manhattania – hetken eläminen osana sitä miljoonakoneistoa, joka pendelöi päivittäin joen ali saarelle työn perässä. tämä pendelöinti erityisesti massiivisten ruuhkien aikana herättää kysymyksen: kuka tätä haluaa ja voisiko tämän järjestää toisin? erittäin erikoinen, suorastaan naurattava, on ketunlenkki, jonka valtaväylä tekee Hudson sillan Jersey cityn puolella tunnelia. teknologiset ja fyysiset ratkaisut luodaan lähtökohtaisesti ihmisiä varten, mutta ihminen turtuu elämänsä epämukavuuksiin ja on helpompaa vain antaa mennä kyseenalaistamatta. 

savuttavassa kapselilaumassa istuminen tuntui nihkeältä arjen ratkaisulta, vaikkakin kääntöpuolena jäisi kokematta myös mittaamattoman järisyttävät elämykset, joita vain New Yorkin kaltainen metropoli voi tarjota. New Yorkin syke on ainutlaatuista, pilvenpiirtäjät ikäänkuin tiivistävät kaiken alhaalla kaduilla sykkivän energian omaksi vaipakseen, joka ei purkaudu mihinkään. olet aurojen ristitulessa kaiken aikaa ja se tuntuu.

päivittäinen siirtymä ETHConf-tapahtumaan sujui pääosin julkisilla, ali Hudson-joen Manhattanin Hudson Yardsiin, suoraan Javits Centerin lasisen ja valoisan arkkitehtuurin ytimeen. Kontrasti North Bergenin rouhean teollisuusmaiseman ja Manhattanin hypermodernin teknologiahubin välillä on käsinkosketeltava. 

matka hotellilta Manhattanille toimiikin erinomaisena analogiana nykyiselle web3-käyttäjäkokemukselle: taustalla on valtava määrä monimutkaista infrastruktuuria (liikennejärjestelmät, tiemaksut, ruuhkat), mutta loppukäyttäjän on silti navigoitava sen läpi sujuvasti päästäkseen määränpäähänsä. tätä navigaatiota sujuvoittamaan halutaankin edesauttaa toimialan eri tasojen ja sektorien toimijoita ETHConf-tyyppisissä tapahtumissa. kaikki haluavat hyvää lopputulosta. 

ETHConf 2026 aihepiiri käsitteli vahvasti hajautettua rahoitusta ja sen sovelluksia. aihe oli todella alleviivaava ja Wall Street kohtasikin on-chain-infrastruktuurin tällä areenalla. Javits Centerissä keskustelu ei pyörinyt enää pelkässä teoriassa vaan lavalla ja käytävillä risteävät perinteisen finanssimaailman myös sääntelyn puolelta saatiin puheenvuoroja, mikä luo koko sektorille uutta uskottavuutta suhteessa yhteiskunnallisiin haasteisiin ja niiden ratkaisumalleihin. kuten arvata saattaa maailmanluokan tapahtuma tuottaa maailmanluokan tuotteita. lahjaksi annettu laukku hämmästytti pohjoista kulkijaa, olosuhteemme ovat vaativat, mikä tahansa pussukka ei meillä palvele. laukku jonka sain, on ajatuksella suunniteltu ja sen sisältä löytyi myös Matchan tarjoama meikkilaukku laturein ja adapterein. näitä tarvitaan, kiitos! 

tässä ympäristössä, jossa Chainlinkin Sergey Nazarovin kaltaiset hahmot linjasivat oraakkeliverkkojen ja reaalimaailman varojen (RWA) tokenisoinnin tulevaisuutta, kehitysprojektin hajautettu energiamalli ja visioimani ECQ-tokenit asettuivat suoraan osaksi kaikkein ajankohtaisinta DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks) -keskustelua. mielenkiintoinen oli myös Octantin Artem Brazhnikovin esitys, joka käsitteli osaltaan julkishyödykkeiden (public goods) rahoitus ja DAO-ohjattu varojen jakaminen. Erittäin relevantti paikallistalouden kannustemalleille. linjaavia keskusteluja edusti ETHGlobalin Kartik Talwarin ja Consensyksen Joe Lubinin kommunikaatio: Why the Next Ten Years of Ethereum Look Different. nostaisin esiin myös arvojohtajajuutta edustaneen Ruben Amenyogbon Architect Systemsilta.

näyttämöillä keskustelua käytiin sekä yhtäaikaisesti että vuorovaikutteisesti tai presentaatioiden välityksellä. ihastuttavia olivat shakkipöydät, joiden äärellä sekä pelattiin että esiteltiin viimeisimpiä sovelluksia. yllättävät kohtaamiset oli mahdollistettu varsin kivasti. muistijäljen jätti pelisessio, jossa me pelaajat tunnistimme saman tunnelman. ikäänkuin suljimme hälisevän ja rätisevän ympäristön pelimme ulkopuolelle ja keskityimme kuplassamme pelilaudan tapahtumiin. meditatiivinen vartti, joka putsasi mielen sivuhistoriasta turhat lataukset.

oma tavoitteeni tapahtumalle oli tuoda esiin hajautetun infrastuktuurin mahdollisuuksia energiayhteisömallissa - yhteiskunnan immuunijärjestelmän rakentamiseksi. sain esitellä luomaani demoappia laskelmineen muutamille vaikuttajille. onnistuin myös valloittamaan toisena konferenssipäivänä sekä DJ:lle tarkoitetun pöydän että päälavan. pidin kaksi puhetta: toisen mikrofonin kautta koko paikalla olleelle yleisölle ja toisen päälavan ääressä olleille kuulijoille. vaikuttavuus oli kohtuullisen hyvä. Ihmiset moikkailivat käytävillä ja henkilö Drew jopa kertoi nähneensä minut jollakin screenilla kysellen: kuka sinä oikein oletkaan?

web3-maailman suuri haaste näyttäytyi myös selkeästi tapahtumassa. kuinka tuoda erinomainen teknologinen ratkaisu tavallisten käyttäjien saavutettavaksi, kun keskustelua käydään lähes hieroglyfisesti lyhentein, puhujan tietotulituksen nopeus etenee YouTube-kertoimella 1.75 ja itse sektori painii edelleen huonohkon maineen ja huijausten kanssa. hirveä yhtälö, mutta ratkaistavissa, jos ymmärrys puolin ja toisin paranee. sillalle pitää tulla puolitiehen vastaan, jotta onnistumme yhdistämään nämä kaksi maailmaa. 

vastapainona tiukalle teknologialle ja koodirakenteille suuntasin kohti Manhattanin rantaa, Arte Museumiin. Näyttely oli aktiviteetti, joka ulottui useaan aistiin. Näkö, kuulo, tunto aktivoitiin ja tasapainoakin "fakehorjutettiin aaltojen iskiessä rantaan. immersiivinen näyttely johdatteli salista toiseen luoden virtuaalisen tilan erilaisille maisemille. Kukkaisalissa jäin tuoksuttelemaan, "onko täällä hento sireenin tuoksu? koskettimet kutsuivat soittamaan varsin alkeellisen "Once upon a dream -versioni. Metsä-salissa pääsi taiteilemaan perinteisin väriliiduin (cryon): syntyi elefantti, joka pienen tovin kuluttua lennähti seinälle kauniina digitaalisena versiona. kyllä sen omaksi saattoi tunnistaa musta-valko-harmaine sävyineen.

Arte Museum ei ole perinteinen museo, vaan oivaltava oppitunti siitä, mitä tulevaisuuden digitaalinen käyttäjäkokemus ja kokonaisvaltainen immersio tarkoittavat. näyttely yhdistää visuaaliset digitaaliset installaatiot, tilaäänen ja master-parfymöörin räätälöimät tuoksut.  miten Arte Museumin kyky herättää digitaalinen maailma eloon kaikkien aistien kautta resonoi oman ohjelmistosuunnittelun filosofian kanssa? näyttely osoittaa, että parhaat järjestelmät – olivatpa ne immersiivistä taidetta tai hajautettuja energiaverkkoja – rakennetaan ihmistä ja kokemusta varten, poistaen teknologian ja käyttäjän väliset rajapinnat. 

suosikkini näyttelyssä löytyi salista, jossa esiteltiin visuaalista taidetta sen historiaa ja muotoja, musiikin säestämänä. pienten yksityiskohtien viehättävä voima häkellytti. näyttelyn Vincent van Gogh esittely targetoi taiteilijan siveltimen käyttöön. zoomaus makrokuvaan hänen maalauksestaan nostaa esiin käsittämättömän tarkan ja nanovedoista koostuvan maalaustyylin. Ikäänkuin sulkamaisia, mutta tylppiä suomuja miljoonin vedoin. hämmästyttävää! 

matka päättyy mieliinpainuvan paluukuljetukseen hotellilta takaisin JFK:lle. New Yorkin luoman sensorisen ylilatauksen jälkeen pohjoinen rauha ja suomalainen selkeys tarjoavat täydellisen ympäristön reflektoida nähtyä. New York osoitti, että suomalainen arkipäiväinen, realistinen ajattelu ja lennokas innovointi kestää vertailun maailman huippujen kanssa. seuraava askel on viedä ekosysteemiä eteenpäin, siirtää operatiivista soihtua raskaan sarjan vetäjille ja jatkaa strategisen, koodittoman "vibearkkitehtuurin kehittämistä, joka tekee monimutkaisesta teknologiasta ihmiselle helposti lähestyttävää. tähän tavoitteeseen on monta reittiä. me suomalaiset voimme näyttää suoraa, reilua ja mutkatonta tietä. siinä meidän tulee olla rohkeita ja ennakkoluulottomia. 

palatessani Helsinkiin, keskellä kaupungin juhlapäivää koin hellyttävän hetken. keskellä cityä nuoret jonottivat matalan kallion reunalle laulamaan karaokea yleisölle. mikki siirtyi kädestä toiseen.
